The student center of Cleveland State University is a building that is located in front of Euclid Avenue, United States, and was designed by a leading New York architect Charles Gwathmey. It also has three plants containing different spaces for the student community.
By walking through the building, we see that each plant has a different function. The ground floor has a direct connection to the street, this is the plant that receives students and gives the first impression of the building showing the large cntral space. Then up to the first floor, we find the dining room, plus the dining service areas (kitchen, food pantry, bathroom, etc...). And then on the second floor is located the lecture hall along with an outdoor terrace overlooking the avenue. This is an excellent place to see around the student center.
In this building can be toured by the circulation horizontal, after passing the main entrance we see directly into the large center area of the ground floor. We can also see how spaces are fluid, and large halls and corridors Containing, Allowing the circulation of alarge number of students. The central atrium also allowsyou to Connect with the outside .
There is also the connection of the three plants for vertical circulation module, contained by stairs, lifts and ramps for pedestrians and some vehicles. An example of this is the ramps that connect the interior spaces to the campus outside the building. This service allows you immediate access to specific areas without having to go through the building.
In my opinion, this building is very interesting because it contains spaces continuous and fluid, this is caused by the different alternatives available to access all floors. The spaces of the project will be traveled daily by a large number of students, what to avoid conflict within the building. Therefore, the architect responds to the needs of students to easily reach anywhere. And it uses both types of movement; it contains long corridors, ramps, elevators, corridors and stairways.
